Review #1,702: Mr. Slim (The Ghetto Messiah) Presents "Ghetto Tears"

Reviewed on 4.20.2017 (Review #1,702)

Haven’t done an old Louisiana CD review in almost a month… What a way to bring ‘em back: on 4/20! Got to go to Louisiana last month & it was a dream come true! I just released my documentary on my trip, yesterday: *Link* Now that I’m back in review mode, time to review this: Mr. Slim (The Ghetto Messiah) Presents Ghetto Tears, released in 1998 on Formaldehyde Records & was produced by Tha Lab Technicians. FYI: This a compilation, too! Start Time: 1:51 AM | End Time: 2:53 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. D.A.C.A.N. “Danger Danger”
>>> Sounds like a decent beat that gon sound like a nice lil’ undaground track, overall... Not bad with tha 1st verse, here; good shit… Tha hook sounds good ta hear, as well; good shit… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty nice, too… “Overload, explode; go into my fuck-tha-world mode;” dope!! My Rating: 4.2

02. Bottom Posse feat. Aria “Mama Why U Cry”
>>> Sounds like a decent lil’ slow song, here… Tha hook ain’t bad but ehh… Tha 1st verse decent, here; let’s keep it movin’… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s aight, too; nothin’ too bad but nothin’ too exciting, too… And, tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ like an okay tale in tha hood… My Rating: 3.4

03. X-Con “Hard Times”
>>> Beat ain’t too bad… These vocals almost have, like, a West Coast taste to ‘em, here, on tha 1st verse; decent… Hearin’ tha hook and it ain’t bad… I almost feel like it’s a taste of Tupac, too… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s soundin’ nice, here… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ nice ta hear, as well… My Rating: 3.7

04. D.A.C.A.N. feat. Ronald Adams “Living For Today”
>>> Sounds like a chill lil’ track ta shmoke to, wit this beat… Hearin’ tha hook and it ain’t bad wit this singin’… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s decent ta hear, here… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse and it sounds nice ta keep this vibe goin’… As far as this title goes, that’s right! “Living for today like there’s no tomorrow!” That’s why I have tha fearless approach I have on life “today!” My Rating: 3.8

05. Bottom Posse “Ghetto Tears”
>>> Sounds slow and really long? Decent track goin’ on, here, with tha 1st verse… Tha hook’s pretty nice wit this gutta feel; can’t deny it… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty nice ta hear, too; good shit… Time fa tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ like a nice lil’ female, here… Keepin’ it movin’ with a 4th verse, here, soundin’ like a decent verse, too… My Rating: 3.7

06. Ronald Adams “Break Me Off”
>>> Sounds like anotha slow jam, here… Why R&B music in tha middle of my rap marathon?? My Rating: 1.2

07. Mr. Slim feat. Rated X & Walter T. “Deep End”
>>> Decent beat, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s not bad, here… Tha hook ain’t too bad, here; it’s all about tha future with this “deep end.” Tha 2nd verse sounds betta wit this faster-soundin’ rappin’; good shit… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ like a decent contribution, too… My Rating: 4.0

½time: Only a 3.4-rated compilation, so far… I believe that R&B track ruined tha vibe but otha than that, it’s mainly only a decent CD, so far…

08. Mr. Slim feat. Joe Blakk, Ragtop & Skull Duggrey “Nigga B-Real”
Lol, speaking of “B-Real” in tha title, I see that on 4/20 and I’m like, “That’s, like, anti-4/20!!,” lol! That name (with “DJ” in it) reminds me of back when I neva got high, smh!! What kinda life that iz?!? >>> Sounds like a weird/odd, ironic title, here, on tha hook… I’m diggin’ tha funky hook, tho; definitely feelin’ this! At least I know all tha names on this shit, unlike most of tha otha songs on this CD! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty dope; good shit! Tha 2nd ½ of tha 1st verse’s pretty nice, too; good shit goin’ on, here… Tha 2nd verse sounds pretty nice and gutta, here; definitely some good shit! And, tha 2nd ½ of tha 2nd verse iz Skull Duggrey, strictly holdin’ shit down, here… My Rating: 4.4

09. D.A.C.A.N. “Whogonride”
>>> Sounds like a dope track wit tha eerie vibe to it… Sounds like a pretty nice hook, here, as well as tha beat… Tha 1st verse ain’t that bad, here; good shit… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s soundin’ like a good verse, too… And, keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ like a decent verse… D.A.C.A.N. got some eerie thoughts surroundin’ him, here… My Rating: 3.9

10. Divine “They Got Me Feeling It”
>>> Sounds like regular rappin’, here, on tha 1st verse, as well as tha plain-soundin’ beat… A female on tha hook, here, soundin’ decent ta hear… And, tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ decent, here; can’t deny it… My Rating: 3.6

11. Bottom Posse feat. X-Con “Dramatime”
>>> Sounds a lil’ eerie, here; sounds nice… Nice wit how y’all comin’ through wit tha 1st verse, here… I’ono why but I’ont remember a female bein’ in Bottom Posse…? And, tha 3rd verse iz here, soundin’ nice, too, as we keep it movin’… And, even a 4th verse, here, soundin’ nice ta hear, as well wit this hood shit, from tha heart… My Rating: 3.8

12. Aria “Do Me”
>>> I’ono about this one… Anotha R&B track, here, but not as bad… My Rating: 1.7

13. X-Con “Man II Man”
>>> Sounds like a good lil’ track; that West Coast voice’s back… Still, anotha long track, here… My Rating: 3.5

14. Mr. Slim feat. D.A.C.A.N. & Ragtop “Nigga Please”
>>> Feelin’ tha eerie vibes and how y’all comin’ through on this… Tha hook’s pretty nice wit tha title repeatin’; good shit, y’all… My Rating: 4.1

15. Millennium “Here Comes Millennium”
>>> Almost sounds like a southern Ma$e? Decent wit how dude comin’ through wit it, here… Just rappin’, here; nothin’ too special… My Rating: 3.5

Overall: Not tha best compilation, as most of tha tracks were long and only decent… Still, it was nice ta get back in this Louisiana Reviewz Marathon! Let’s see how many dayz in a row I can keep it goin’! Last streak was two months; two months from now’s my birthday! We’ll see how that goes!
