Review #1,565: Triple Trey Family "Thugs Forever"

Reviewed on 10.04.2016 (Review #1,565)

Lemme get into anotha review, despite a short-handed day at work & me not really feelin’ it… Triple Trey Family Thugs Forever, released in 1996 on Triple Trey Records & was produced by Ro Handle & Suicide (except Track 02, which was produced by Felton Langlois)! Can’t wait ta hear this! Start Time: 4:18 PM | End Time: 5:20 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. Intro
>>> Sounds nice from tha trunk—broadcastin’ from tha trunk!! Feelin’ tha southern slang! My Rating: N/A

02. “Thugs Forever”
>>> Beat’s definitely pure; gangsta shit at its finest!! Great job with tha hook, thuggin’ “forever!” Great job with havin’ a female randomly appear, Chyna White style! Tha 1st verse’s soundin’ nice, comin’ through nicely, here! Quick 1st verse? Went by so fast… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s keepin’ this gangsta shit comin’!! That female’s on tha 3rd verse, here, comin’ through in a nice way! Comin’ through nicely on tha 4th verse, here, fa tha south! “I’m just a young thug, thug;” nice! And, even tha 2nd ½ of tha 4th verse’s pretty nice! Y’all a tight group, holdin’ err-thang down!! Sounds like early 2000’s folks could’ve been influenced off this shit! And, tha track stops at 3:45… And, it faded in tha beat, again, as y’all give a “shout out ta Pac.” Some quick rappin’ toward tha end; consider this a 5th verse, “Pac” style! Nice cold ending, as tha rappin’ kept continuin’ till tha bitter end!! My Rating: 4.7

03. “This Ain’t Livin’”
I had reviewed this on tha previous Triple Trey Family release, 333:

“A lil’ slower of a vibe, compared to tha previous tracks, but still dark… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s a good story about y’all comin’ up… Tha hook ain’t bad; real shit bein’ spit with some singin’ vocals in tha background… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s nice, too; props for tha rhymes. Tha 3rd verse ain’t too bad; some of it sounds a lil’ off-beat, at times, but it ain’t bad… A 4th verse, here, comin’ through, deliverin’ them rhymes fa da “dangazone;” good shit.” My Current Rating: 4.0

04. “Mind Of A Madman”
>>> Beat’s nice; luv tha hook!!! Has that Graveyard Soldjas vibe to it!! Luv how it’s rapped fast like them!! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and y’all keepin’ it real, here, fa dem gangstaz!! Hearin’ tha 2nd ½ of tha 1st verse and it’s pretty serious, as well; keep up tha rhymes!! Did y’all say, “Hope y’all have tha nips up in y’all drawers,” lol? Lol… “Mind of a madman, a normal life I neva had. Thuggin’ wit tha 9…glock…,” lol… Tha 2nd verse’s pretty nice; luvin’ how tha beat has tha creepy keys!! Tha 2nd ½ of tha 2nd verse was pretty nice, too! I luv how y’all gave a shout out ta “Graveyard Soldjas” at tha end, too; nice prediction?! My Rating: 4.6

05. Skit
>>> Feelin’ tha street vibe of this outside “skit”! My Rating: N/A

06. “Straight Strugglin’”
>>> Beat’s nice, as tha keys creep throughout tha background… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and y’all got this shit on lock! It’s all about tha struggle of tryna get it! I remember when I was that, as far as not havin’ a job! Now, I’m trapped at tha job, due to my value! Hearin’ tha hook and it’s short and sweet; nice job… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty nice, too… Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ nice, as well… And, tha final minute of this iz some singin’… My Rating: 4.0

07. “Doomed”
>>> I’m diggin’ tha intro, even tho my “job” has me in a toxic trap! It’s almost like, would my life be better without one and I just promote? Really feelin’ tha dark beat!! Goes great with tha title!! “’71 was tha year…;” y’all on tha older tip! Where y’all at, now? Hope y’all doin’ good! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice; luv it with tha beat!! Tha hook’s pretty intense; doesn’t sound like there’s confidence? “I was doomed from tha start;” doesn’t mean y’all have to “leave this world!” Anyway, hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty jammin’, but intense and real at tha same time! Tha 3rd verse’s pretty nice, too; can’t deny tha intensity! Keepin’ it goin’ with tha 2nd ½ of tha 3rd verse… It’s soundin’ really off-beat, at times… Either way, decent… My Rating: 4.4

08. “Flowing”
>>> Nice beat, here, strictly hidden in tha undaground! Kickin’ it off wit tha chick from 333 on tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice; great aggression & energy! Really feelin’ tha energy on tha hook!! Much stronger!! Luv how it has ta do wit a “body flowing in tha river;” intense!! Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha chick on tha 2nd verse and she’s steppin’ up wit her energy!! Definitely feelin’ this!! Now, one of tha dudes on tha 3rd verse, here, and even tho it ain’t as energetic as tha hook and chick, it still has this hood shit on lock! And, a tight outro, too! My Rating: 4.5

½time: I think this an excellent release, so far! Definitely luvin’ tha energy, tha intensity, tha dark beats and tha undaground vibes! Y’all got all tha positives from me! A 4.4-rated CD, too!

09. “Criminal Killa”
>>> Sounds like a dark beat, here; nice intro… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice, here… Tha beat has so much fluctuatin’ goin’ on with tha sounds; luvin’ it! Sounds like somethin’ I’d do with holdin’ tha keys/sounds down! I can even hear when they switch keys, lol!! Undaground at its finest!! Great shit; luvin’ it!! Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 2nd ½ of tha 1st verse and it’s nice, too! And, more comin’ outta tha 1st verse with a 3rd part? How much can fit in one verse? Anotha part, unless I can’t tell where tha hook iz—oh wait, here it iz at 2:13… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s soundin’ simple but it flows… Now, it’s time fa tha 2nd verse and it has this gangsta shit on lock! Tha 2nd part of tha 2nd verse’s keepin’ this goin’… Dude on tha 3rd part of tha 2nd verse’s pretty nuts with tha way that voice delivers!! Still sounds a lil’ off-beat like tha other song, but it ain’t bad ta hear… A 4th part of tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through in a calm perspective… A 5th voice, too; nice! Oh, boy, luvin’ tha beat outro!!!!! My Rating: 4.5

10. “Who’s Da Man”
>>> A lil’ skit in tha beginning, broadcastin’ from, what sounds like a barbeque? After 47 seconds, here comes a beat creepin’ in…; sounds nice… Hearin’ tha beginning of tha rappin’ and it’s pretty nice! Luvin’ this beat! Creepy! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s tight; luvin’ tha undaground sound! A sample on tha hook? Wouldn’t’ve expected fa a ’96 release! Sounds nice ta hear… Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice, too… Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ nice… I’ono what’s with this dude but it sounds off-beat, again! My Rating: 4.2

11. “Death Wish”
>>> Creepy beat start; luvin’ it! Luvin’ tha beat sound at :15!! I swear, this can be electronic dance music/trance music, right now!! Hearin’ tha female on tha 1st verse, comin’ through wit a nice lil’ rhyme fa tha undaground, as that intense beat continues with keys! Tha 2nd verse sounds a lil’ of what can be a young Boosie; nice! Tha 2nd part of tha 2nd verse’s pretty nice with battlin’ these “demons!” As tha lady continues tha 3rd verse, here, it’s soundin’ nice, once again… My Rating: 4.3

12. “No Love”
Nice beat, as it’s dark and undaground. Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it almost sounds a lil’ randomly-rapped, at first, but it’s nice ta hear fa tha streetz! Tha 2nd dude sounds nice ta hear, too… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s just tha title, repeatin’, like, once or twice…; nice… Hearin’ tha 3rd dude and it’s nice, too… Hearin’ tha 4th dude and it’s nice ta hear, fa dat dark, undaground rap, as well! Hearin’ tha 5th dude on this and it’s soundin’ great ta hear, too… My Current Rating: 4.3

13. “Danger Zone II”
Beat sounds cool; nice lil’ dark vibe, here… Hearin’ tha 1st dude and it’s a lil’ bit of a head-shake vibe, at times… You gotta get inta this undaground shit ta appreciate it… Tha hook sounds pretty nice; what else can I say…? Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it has a consistent vibe to it; diggin’ tha rhymes! Now, we got tha 3rd verse, here, and tha rhymes continue ta be consistent, on a gangsta level! My Current Rating: 4.2

14. “Open Ya Mind”
>>> Beat’s nice and eerie and tha 1st verse’s soundin’ nice… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty nice, here… Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 2nd verse and yeah, WTF’s up wit these killings, still? Tha 3rd verse’s soundin’ excellent with tha voice and delivery of tha rhymes; southern at its finest! Likin’ how tha title was screamed at tha end!! Cold ending!! My Rating: 4.1

15. “Smok’em Up”
>>> Luvin’ tha “loaded” hook; sounds like a bounce-like vocal!! Beat’s nice and undaground, too! Tha 1st verse’s pretty nice; luvin’ tha bounce-like vocal throughout this whole track! “Smokin’ blunt afté blunt;” like tha “é” in tha “after!” Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s soundin’ catchy, too; celebration at its finest!! Keepin’ it goin’ with more on tha 2nd verse; nice… My Rating: 4.3

16. “Murderous Mind State”
>>> Hearin’ tha beat and it’s pretty nice with its intensity… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and tha rhymes are definitely nice; great undaground shit, here! Holy, hook!! How fast can you say tha title?! Say dat five times fast!! “Murderous mind state, murderous mind state, murderous mind state…!” Keepin’ it goin’ with tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ nice, too; great rhymes and flow! Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s pretty nice, too, stayin’ on tha grind… My Rating: 4.4

17. Out Thro
>>> Beat sounds nice and this “out thro” cool… Props fa givin’ a “shout out” ta “9 Liv’z Records;” shout out ta Mr. Will! Just reviewed his lil’ tape yesterday, Tat Nigga, which I’m prolly tha only one in tha U.S. that has heard/reviewed it! My Rating: N/A

Overall: Excellent tha whole way through!! Luved all tha dark tales and how all y’all pulled through ta provide an excellent product!! Great job!! No songs fucked up, here, even tho there were some off-beat moments…
